BIO

David Frederick Hardy’s artistic journey began at the age of 10, when he discovered music through the trumpet and began composing. His early passion for the arts led him to study at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, while also attending evening courses at Harvard University in Cambridge. During this time, Hardy served as co-chair of the Industrial Liaison Committee for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Society for Biomaterials, an experience that expanded his interdisciplinary perspective and deepened his appreciation for the relationship between art, science, and innovation.

Hardy’s orchestral compositions have been broadcast on classical radio, showcasing his ability to craft evocative soundscapes. Yet it was in his hometown of Palm Springs, California, that a new chapter began when he met New Zealand–born sculptor Colin Webster Watson. A close friend of Winston Churchill’s daughter, Sarah Churchill, Colin’s bronzes were collected by Jacqueline Kennedy, Aristotle Onassis, and actress Debbie Reynolds, among others. Under his guidance, Hardy discovered the enduring power of bronze as a medium of expression.

Hardy went on to live and create in Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Canada, always refining his vision. His studio is now based in Park City, Utah, where he sculpts in clay before casting in bronze, a medium that allows him to capture both fluidity and permanence. “There is magic in clay and bronze,” Hardy reflects. “Mythologies dating back to archaic times tell of life emerging from clay, and of the bronze casting method as a gift from the gods.”

Working in the tradition of ancient statuary, Hardy’s mission is to celebrate life by expressing the mystery of beauty—the dance and pause, vitality and stillness that define human experience. His career highlights include a solo exhibition at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, sponsored by Wynn Resorts, a commissioned bronze for former United States Ambassador John Price, and six commissioned pieces for Dave Oder, founder of Shift4 Corporation.

Today, Hardy continues to create works that bridge old world craftsmanship and modernity, inviting viewers to experience the timeless resonance of bronze sculpture.
